Announcing 107th Street Save-A-Lot Tours
May 24, 2014 ? The Improving Diabetes Team is adding a fourth location for the Shop Right, Save-a-Lot, and Be Healthy Grocery Store Tours in the Roseland Neighborhood at 107th and S. Halsted Street. This new location, hosting tours on the 4th Saturday of each month, will feature an expanded exhibit, including cooking demonstrations and exercise tips.

National Diabetes ID Day at New Beginnings Church
Dr. Monica Peek visited New Beginnings church to help celebrate National ID Day. The ID Day initiative is a part of the Live Empower program with the American Diabetes Association and aims to increase awareness of Diabetes in the African American Community.
Second Annual Diabetes Cook Off
Saturday, November 16, 2013 ? In observance of National Diabetes Month, The Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago hosted its Second Annual Diabetes Cook Off at the Washburne Culinary Institute. The cook off was an opportunity for ordinary cooks to compete and share their best diabetes-friendly, healthy recipes and to demonstrate that healthy, diabetes-friendly food can be delicious, affordable, and enjoyed by the entire family. Recipes in four categories, side dish, entr?e, dessert, and snack, were judged for a grand prize of $500 cash and many other great prizes! Thank you to all who attended the Cook Off!
Meet the Judges for the Second Annual Diabetes Cook Off
President of University of Chicago Medical Center, Sharon O?Keefe will be a judge in the Second Annual Diabetes Cook Off
?This is a wonderful community event. The South Side Diabetes Project is an important part of our efforts to partner with community organizations to promote diabetes education and encourage healthy lifestyles.?
Sharon O?Keefe is the President of the University of Chicago Medical Center. A Chicago native, she began her health care career as a critical care nurse, and is a nationally recognized authority on hospital operations, health care quality, patient satisfaction and employee engagement.
Announcing Food RX ? Accessible and Affordable Healthy Foodÿ
Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago is teaming up with Walgreens and Experimental Station to launch ?Food Rx.? This initiative will help people with diabetes improve their eating habits by overcoming two major hurdles when shopping for food: access and affordability. Project Hood 5K/10K Walk and Run
Saturday June 15, 2013 ? The Improving Diabetes Team joined Pastor Corey Brooks for the Project Hood 5K/10K Walk and Run.ÿThe event increased awareness on being healthy and safe in our communities.

First Diabetes Cook Off (2012)
On behalf of the Improving Diabetes Care and Outcomes on the South Side of Chicago team, we would like to thank all those that came out and supported our first Diabetes Cook-Off Contest at Washburne Culinary Institute/Kennedy King College in observance of Diabetes Awareness Month. We had wonderful weather and a fantastic turnout from the public with more than 150 in attendance.
